Replacing your Outdoor Lighting

Replacing your outdoor lighting is a simple process that will instantly upgrade the look of your home.  It will surprise you how much simply replacing your standard, run-of-the-mill builder-quality outdoor lights with exciting and vibrant decorative Quoizel outdoor lighting will change the feel of your home.  Here’s some hints on how to select your outdoor lighting…

  • Before you move on, check your local laws to see if you have any restrictions on the types of outdoor lighting you may install.  Certain areas, for instance, have “Dark Sky” laws in effect that say that your lights must shine DOWN and not out or up.  Check for compliance before you purchase your lights.
  • Select how many of which types of fixtures you’d like to install or replace wall lights, post lights, pendants or ceiling lights.
  • Do you live in a coastal area?  If so, you know how corrosive the air can be to just about anything you install on the outside of your house.  Quoizel has the perfect answer for your options for best results.
  • Next let’s take a look at size.  If you are replacing an outdoor light, and you feel it was about the right size for your home, look for a replacement that is about the same size.  Not sure if your wall lights on either side of your front door are the right size?  Do this:
  • Measure the front door from top to bottom (for example 6’ 8” tall)
  • Divide the height of your front door by 1/3 and 1/4 (in our example, 80”/3=27 and 80”/4=20)
  • Select wall fixtures that are between these two numbers (somewhere between 20” and 27”)
  • Select the style that fits both your home and your personalities. Quoizel artisans have crafted styles for classic traditional homes, contemporary homes, and everywhere in between.
  • Consider the type of lamp (think: bulb) you want.  Traditional socket lights (both medium-base and candelabra) offer the most flexibility in that you can select lamps/bulbs with the color you want and the right number of lumens.  Integrated LED lights are pretty, but if you have an issue with any of them, you’ll have to replace the entire fixture.
  • Finally, color comes into play.  Lately, matte black has been a super-hot finish, with classics like brass remaining strong.  Remember that certain finishes (brass or copper, for instance) weather differently and take on a different finish over time (called a patina).
